At NECE Labs, our primary objective is to promote and strengthen interdisciplinary and transnational collaboration in civic education. We achieve this by embracing a multi-perspective approach that focuses on essential civic competences. Through facilitating meaningful partnerships and fostering in-depth discussions among civic educators, practitioners, and experts from various disciplines and professions, we encourage mutual learning, knowledge exchange, and the co-creation of innovative tools for effective civic education.

Each Lab is co-led and co-hosted by experts deeply rooted in their respective fields — covering areas such as digital and media literacy, financial and economic literacy, migration and integration, conflict, polarisation and peacebuilding, education for sustainable development, climate change, and the civic implications of AI. The Labs also work with businesses to bring civic learning into workplaces, helping organisations cultivate democratic cultures and strengthen civic competences within professional settings. This diversity enables participants to explore civic education through multiple lenses and connect practice with global challenges. Grounded in lived expertise, NECE Labs bridge sectors and geographies, allowing civic educators to prototype new methods and reimagine how learning for democracy can evolve in a rapidly changing world.
