Catarina Carvalho is a Portuguese journalist and media entrepreneur who, after almost 30 years of experience in major newsrooms, co-founded Mensagem de Lisboa, a pioneering local, community-focused digital publication launched in 2021 that prioritises human-interest storytelling and civic engagement across Lisbon. Before launching this venture, she held top editorial leadership positions in Portugal. Now her work focuses on transforming local journalism through active community participation and getting in direct touch with the audience, amplifying the realms of journalism to public debates, live journalism and public initiatives. She is also a journalism teacher, a TV commentator, was a visiting Fellow at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford University, is part of the board of Wan-Ifra and has been on the board of the Reference Circle.
