Pedro Calado

Director of the Active Citizens Programme and the European and Media Information Fund at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation since 2023. Pedro Calado holds a degree and a master’s in Geography, focusing on “Exclusion, Society and Territory”, both from the Classic University of Lisbon. He is currently doing his PhD in Sociology. He is a guest professor at several Universities, mainly on migration, social innovation, and evaluation themes, and has co-published several articles and books. With over 25 years of experience in social inclusion, diversity, migration, and youth issues, before joining the Foundation in 2020, Pedro was, for six years, the Portuguese High Commissioner for Migration. At the same time, he was the National Coordinator of the Choices Program, a public policy that supports children and young people in vulnerable communities.
