Thomas Krüger

Since 2000 Thomas Krüger has been Director of the German Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb). After being a founding member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the former GDR and becoming the executive director of the SDP in Berlin (East), Thomas Krüger has been a deputy chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in Berlin (East/West) (1990-1992) and the city’s Senator for Youth and Family Affairs (1991-1994). He served as a member of the German Parliament, the Bundestag (1994-1998), as a board member of the cultural forum of the SPD, and as a member of Berlin’s International City Commission. Since 1995, Thomas Krüger is president of the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk (German Children’s Fund). He studied Theology in Berlin and Eisenach.
